I made an attempt in white then to distinguish "Bromme" in the history of Hong Kong, wherein Justice Wise took part, as a member of the Commission.
I must mention my work was carefully published in We Hongkong. My technique was to take the liberty of presenting the enclosed letter to you, hopefully of some value.
I drew the attention of the Attorney-General of England. I have had repeated applications from various parts of the British Dominions for copies of my book which, at first, was but a small attempt on my part to supplement a work long since out of print.
I may mention for your information that a considerable expectation, much beyond my original intention, has been excited by my work, and enlarged editions of this work are in preparation. For some time, I have been positively urged to go on with it, including an account of my vindictive spite that I anticipate from those displeased against me, especially by Justice Wise and others connected with the law.
When I was Acting Puisne Judge here, I had occasion to bring about the publication of my "History of the Laws, &c., of Hong Kong". I may also mention that, when acting as foreman, I actually referred to and sent extracts of my work to the Colonial Attorneys-General (of which new copies are now rare, and which I was compelled to reprint largely at my own expense).
My work, while meeting with the greatest gratitude and expressions of approval in England and elsewhere, has been criticised; although, when able and so...
